Number of clashes between police officers and Tea Partiers: Zero.
(SEATTLE, WA) — Pepper spray flew Tuesday night along with insults and taunts toward the police, as things at Occupy Seattle turned testy and a bit ugly.
An unknown number of demonstrators were pepper sprayed in two locations in Seattle Tuesday evening during a protest in support of the Occupy movement on Tuesday.
The demonstrators were marching from a camp at Seattle Central Community College to Westlake Park late Tuesday afternoon and while on the way there they were met by Seattle Police officers at several points including the intersection of Fifth and Pine in downtown Seattle where police on bikes blocked the way.
Tensions hit a point where police eventually let loose with cans of pepper spray in an effort to disperse the crowd and move people out of the street and onto sidewalks so evening commute traffic could get through.
A police spokesman said the spray was only deployed against people who were refusing an order to disperse or were engaged in assaultive behavior toward officers.
Police said six people were arrested during the march including two 17-year olds and a man and a woman.
The man was busted after he allegedly threw some type of liquid at an officer’s face. Another man was arrested for alleged assault.
