(The Hill) — Two national Democratic committees on Monday jointly announced they have filled the newly created position of Chief Diversity Officer.
The position was created following the recommendation of the Democratic National Committee’s Budget and Finance Committee. Controversy erupted earlier this year when internal memos revealed concerns over minority contracting by the committee. DNC leaders defended their hiring policies but launched a broad review of the committee’s hiring practices and agreed to create the new role of Chief Diversity Officer. Greg Hinton has been hired to fill the position.
Hinton, who formerly worked for U.S. Cellular, will advise both the DNC and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), as well as the Chief Executive Officer in charge of planning the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC), the nominating convention that will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina next September.
“The Democratic Party has long been dedicated to including talented people who reflect the diversity of our great country, and Greg will bring his talents to bear as we make sure we are living up to that commitment,” said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the head of the DNC.
