The economy needs no help sucking as long as Obama inhabits the White House.
(Politico) — In a major rhetorical escalation, President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign manager is accusing Senate Republicans of trying to keep unemployment high to benefit the GOP’s political fortunes.
Jim Messina, in an email blast to Obama supporters, urged Democrats to flood Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s phone line ahead of tonight’s procedural vote on the president’s $447 billion jobs bill.
“Their strategy is to suffocate the economy for the sake of what they think will be a political victory,” wrote Messina. “They think that the more folks see Washington taking no action to create jobs, the better their chances in the next election. So they’re doing everything in their power to make sure nothing gets done.
“There’s still time for principled Republican senators to declare their independence from this kamikaze political strategy,” he added.
Asked for comment, McConnell spokesman Don Stewart retorted: “Wait, I thought this wasn’t about politics. The White House even said so. And I believed them. I’m so naïve; I feel so used.”
McConnell, in a statement, wrote: “Everyone who votes for this second stimulus will have to answer a simple but important question: why on earth would you support an approach that we already know won’t work?”
