Settle down, tough guy.
(Politico) — A key grumpus du jour among Republicans centers on the suddenly truculent tone the Obama White House is taking in issuing a veto threat and demanding swift, no-compromise approval of the American Jobs Act.
“We were in a position of legislative compromise by necessity. That phase is behind us.” White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer told the New York Times, in a story widely circulated, highlighted and remarked-upon by Republicans and their Hill staffers Tuesday.
But the administration is taking a page from Sarah Palin: Don’t retreat, reload. Vice President Joe Biden was in Ohio Tuesday, echoing President Obama’s tart new tones.
“We are not prepared to take no for an answer,” Biden said on the jobs bill, after touring a shrink-wrap factory in Solon, Ohio.
A few weeks ago, it was the White House urging compromise and bipartisan cooperation.
