Little girls wearing Justin Beiber shirts hardest hit.
CAIRO: An al-Azhar official said Wednesday that praying while wearing t-shirts that have celebrities on them is “hated very much.”
The Undersecretary of the Egyptian Ministry of Religious Endowments Salem Abdul Jalil told reporters that while the prayer might be all right theoretically, “it lacks respect to Allah in proper attire and if Muslims are praying in a group, it might distract others.”
He added that Prophet Mohamed’s followers used to wear their finest wardrobes while praying, knowing they “are between the hands of God.”
Samy Abdul Fattah, an Islamic scholar said that wearing such t-shirts is “inappropriate.”
“It is unacceptable for one to stand praying for God while wearing the pictures of people,” he said.
