Washington (CNN) — A campaign official for President Barack Obama tells CNN the president has cancelled two political fundraising appearances Monday night because of the debt ceiling situation.

The president’s week-ahead schedule, released Friday night, stated he was to attend two Democratic National Committee events in Washington Monday evening. But the events were not listed on a schedule released Sunday night.

(ABC News) — Obama campaign officials confirm to ABC News that actual cancellations are now in effect for more than a half dozen political fundraisers that were to take President Obama to the West Coast and Vice President Biden to three cities across the South.

An uncertain fate awaits a fundraising celebration for President Obama’s 50th birthday in his hometown Chicago. He might not be able to attend on August 3, a day before the birthday and one day after the default deadline for the debt ceiling. The cancellations were first reported by the Chicago Sun Times.
