Unions are a death sentence for a business and capitalism as a whole, at some point they will destroy the company, it’s just a matter of when.

ONTARIO — Teamsters President James P. Hoffa and Sen. Barbara Boxer have jumped into a local labor dispute over 65 jobs.

BMW Group’s contract with Teamsters Union Local 495 expires on Aug. 31. The automaker has confirmed plans to end its relationship with the union and hire an outside company to run the parts distribution center, located near the intersection of Milliken Avenue and Lowell Street in Ontario.

Employees have protested the decision to eliminate the jobs. Now, Hoffa, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, has joined their efforts, writing a letter criticizing BMW officials.

In the letter, sent to the CEO of BMW in Germany and the CEO of BMW of North America, Hoffa states he “vigorously protest BMW’s behavior.”

“It is time for BMW to make the right choice and drop its plan to brutally lay off its Ontario facility employees,” Hoffa writes.

Hoffa’s letter, which was sent Monday, was followed by a letter sent Wednesday by Boxer, D-Calif., who urged BMW to reconsider its decision.

Tom Kowaleski, spokesman for BMW Group said the company is in a transition phase and details of the contract are under negotiation and would remain private.
