(The Hill) — Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) blasted The New York Times and others for “mindless hysteria” over his hearings into the possible radicalization of American Muslims. . . .
“Yet the first radicalization hearing which this committee held in March of this year was met with much mindless hysteria — led by radical groups such as the Council of Islamic Relations and their allies in the liberal media, personified by The New York Times.”
King’s second hearing on Wednesday is focused on whether Muslims in U.S. prisons are being radicalized. The hearings have come under criticism from many Democrats, including Rep. Bennie Thompson (Miss.), the ranking member of King’s committee, who questioned whether the subject was worth a hearing.
King said fighting the radicalization of Muslim Americans shouldn’t be partisan politics.
“Countering Islamic radicalization should not be a partisan issue. I would urge my Democratic colleagues to rise above partisan talking points,” he said.
