June 9 (Bloomberg) — A Chicago man was found guilty of helping plan an attack on a Danish newspaper that printed inflammatory cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and of aiding a Pakistani group labeled a terrorist organization by the U.S.
Tahawwur Rana, 50, a Pakistani native and Canadian citizen, was acquitted by a federal jury today on a third charge, that he helped planners of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks that killed about 160 people, including six Americans.
The Chicago jury of eight women and four men, whose identities were kept secret by court order, deliberated for two days before concluding that Rana was guilty on the two counts. All the jurors declined to meet with reporters after the verdict. U.S. District Court Judge Harry D. Leinenweber, who presided over the trial, said jurors’ names won’t be released.
