On Friday, the Department of Justice announced that it was dropping the criminal investigation in ex-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.
McCabe had been criminally referred for investigation by the DOJ’s Inspector General (IG) after he lied to the FBI regarding leaks to the Wall Street Journal about the ongoing investigation into whether the 2016 Trump campaign colluded with Russia to steal the election. A special counsel determined that no member of the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to steal the election.
In response to the DOJ dropping the investigation and charges against McCabe, the former FBI official turned to his new employer, CNN, to give a tone-deaf victory lap.
“As glad as I am that the DOJ and the D.C. attorney’s office finally decided to do the right thing today, it’s an absolute disgrace that they took two years and put my family through this experience for two years before they finally drew the obvious conclusion,” McCabe said.
