The Turkish military shelled U.S. Special Forces during an operation that was an apparent mistake.
A senior Pentagon official and an Iraqi Kurdish intelligence official said Friday that U.S. Special Forces came under shelling from the Turkish government during their “Operation Peace Spring,” according to Newsweek.
The bombing of U.S. forces, which occurred in Kurdish-controlled territory in the northern Syrian city of Kobani, was described as a mistake. U.S. forces withdrew after the shelling ceased and did not return fire. No fatalities have been reported.
Was it mistakenly? Maybe or maybe not.
The SDF now says it has killed 5 Turkish soldiers and destroyed a police station across the border in shelling from Kobane. There’s more than one US base in the area. Hard to see how US troops can avoid being in the middle of this unless more of them are pulled back.
