As the article notes, the reason Colt has halted the manufacture because they’re concentrating on military and law enforcement contracts:

“On the other hand, our warfighters and law enforcement personnel continue to demand Colt rifles and we are fortunate enough to have been awarded significant military and law enforcement contracts. Currently, these high-volume contracts are absorbing all of Colt’s manufacturing capacity for rifles,” he said.

And the greater reason is that there are hundreds of manufacturers of the AR who are selling it for less than Colt’s $1000 price.

It has nothing to do with the actions of March for Our Lives and is still the most popular rifle in the country.
