The AJ description – “homeless mom Tanya McDowell got 5 years in prison for enrolling her son in a school outside her listed district” – is completely false.

First, she wasn’t homeless, she was living with her aunt. Second, she was arrested for allegedly selling drugs and offering a cop a prostitute. She stepped out of her six year old son’s birthday party to allegedly make the deal.

When she was arrested for grand larceny in the case of lying about her son’s residence so he could go to the school, she got a plea deal where she could plead to that and have the other outstanding charges dropped.

She also had a prior record for bank robbery and gun possession.

And she was additionally convicted later for more drug sales in Bridgeport around the same time.
