Former Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director Andrew McCabe — who was fired on the eve of his retirement for allegedly lying under oath — told CNN this week that congress should begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump “immediately.”
CNN host Chris Cuomo invited McCabe on his show to weigh in on recent comments the president made, where the commander in chief suggested he would hypothetically accept information on a political rival if it came from a foreign source.
McCabe called the president’s comments “absolutely wrong,” and “yet another example of the president’s efforts to try to normalize his own abhorrent behavior.”
The former official backed up his claims by pointing to a stern statement issued by the head of the Federal Elections Commission on Thursday, wherein Chair Ellen Weintraub reminded the American public that “it is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election.”
