Yup, the people trying to save babies don’t care about them, but the people trying to kill them really do. Way to get votes in Alabama there…
SAN FRANCISCO — Alabama lawmakers who pushed the state’s strict anti-abortion measure don’t really care about the children they claim to be protecting, said Kamala Harris.
“In this fight, we know we are on the side of right,” Harris said late Friday during a California Democratic Convention sideline event hosted by Planned Parenthood. “Those folks down in Alabama who are doing this, these are the same folks who, by the time that baby is born, they couldn’t care less. What are they doing to support that mother and what she needs in terms of prenatal help? They’re not doing a thing, but they’re trying to tell women what to do with their bodies. We’re going to tell them a thing or two,” the California senator, appearing confident in her home state, told the crowd of about 800 gathered at Mezzanine, a trendy live music venue in San Francisco, Calif.
Harris, one of 14 presidential candidates formally addressing the convention this weekend, made the comments after Alabama last month joined a slew of states introducing legislation restricting access to reproductive care. Louisiana’s governor last Thursday signed a bill into law that bans abortion at as early as six weeks, before most women realize they are pregnant. It additionally does not allow for exceptions in cases of rape or incest.
