Attempted illegal entry into Mexico.

A Tucson man was shot and a border officer was hurt in an incident at the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Prensa Fronteriza is reporting Angel Manuel Mendivil Perez, 24, was shot as he ignored an order to stop as he was crossing into Mexico at the DeConcini Port of Entry.

The Nogales Fire Department said it picked up one man who had a gunshot wound. This patient, who was not identified by NFD, was flown to the trauma center at Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson. He was in critical condition while NFD had him. Before being transported by NFD, the man had been treated at a facility in Mexico.

NFD also transported a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. No further information about the officer was immediately available.

According to information from the CBP, the shooting happened around 7 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle that was trying to get into Mexico.

After the shooting Perez’s vehicle continued into Mexico, where Perez and his passenger were arrested.
