Feel good legislation.
Via The Tennessean:
A Democratic lawmaker who last year tried to ban Tennessee license plates featuring the Confederate battle flag is once again attempting to do so.
Sen. Sara Kyle, D-Memphis, on Wednesday filed a bill to prohibit the state from issuing or renewing Sons of Confederate Veterans license plates. Her legislation is being carried in the House of Representatives by Rep. G.A. Hardaway, another Memphis Democrat.
The state has issued the SCV plate since 2004, allowing the proceeds to benefit the organization’s Tennessee division.
“The Confederate flag represents a time when Tennessee seceded from the United States to protect the system of human slavery,” Kyle said. “I think that our new governor knows that, and this flag and license plate both, they’re just too divisive.”
Gov. Bill Lee on Wednesday said he had not seen the bill and offered no opinion on whether he would support a ban on Tennessee-issued Sons of Confederate Veterans plates.
