Deputies recovered more than 100 shell casings and a bag of marijuana after two people were hurt in a shooting at a house party near Gaffney.
The shooting happened shortly after midnight on Sunday at a mobile home on 3rd Avenue.
Cherokee County deputies surrounded the mobile home for several hours.
“Waking up and seeing 10 to 15 cop cars infront of my house doesn’t really shock me at this point,” said a nearby resident.
Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller says the late night party ended when “hooligans,” as he called them, pulled the trigger more than 100 times. That sent party goers fleeing for their lives.
“It was simply a miracle from God that no other persons were injured or fatally wounded from the reckless gunfire from the hooligans on scene,” Sheriff Mueller said.
“There were about 80 to 100 people there, so it’s surprising that it’s just minor injuries,” a neighbor told 7News.
Investigators say a 27-year-old man hurt his leg after jumping through a glass window trying to escape. Another 27-year-old man was grazed by gunfire and arrived at the hospital a short time later. Both men are expected to make a full recovery.
A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, lives nearby and says wild parties that end in shootings are becoming the norm in Gaffney.
“Last week, the Sugar Shack shooting… someone got killed that was an innocent bystander. There’s been three or four people killed on our street.”
