Can’t be, N.J. has strict gun laws.
Via NBC NY:
An armed hostage situation brought police swarming to a UPS mail sorting facility in Logan Township, New Jersey, Monday morning.
Officers descended on the UPS Mail Innovations warehouse on Birch Creek Road before 8:30 a.m., Gloucester County dispatchers said.
A man entered the facility and fired shots into the ceiling before taking his ex-girlfriend and another person hostage, a law enforcement source told NBC New York investigative reporter Jonathan Dienst.
The gunman pistol whipped a security guard then fired the shots, a worker who asked not to be identified told NBC10. The gunman then grabbed a woman, put the gun to her head and shouted “I am not going to jail, but I will kill you.”
Another employee, Allen Anthony Dowling, told The Associated Press he heard a fellow worker say someone had a gun. Dowling says he then heard what he thought was a gunshot and began to run along with other employees.
No one was struck in the initial shooting, the source said.
Police surrounded an area around a loading dock at the supply chain processing facility, which had about 60 employees inside at the time.
Local police would not respond to requests for comment. The FBI confirmed that it was assisting local police, but did not provide any information on the incident. A New Jersey State Police chopper could be seen in the air.
UPS said it was assisting local law enforcement with the incident and called it an “active shooter situation.” The company didn’t provide information about the people involved.
