Last year the Girl Scouts of USA issued a warning to parents, asking them to think twice before forcing their daughters to hug relatives during the holiday season.

This year they’re relaying the same message, but some people still seem to disagree with the “no hug” policy.

Lee Snodgrass, the Director of Communications for Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, said the meaning behind the message is to teach girls the importance of setting boundaries and giving consent.

“Girl Scouts of the USA had a blog post about not forcing your daughter to not hug or kiss visitors during the holidays and we found that it’s getting a lot of attention,” said Snodgrass. “Those kind of lessons start at a very young age. Even when you say to a toddler, ‘do you want to hug this person’ or ‘do you want to give them a kiss’, instead of assuming because they’re young and little that they want to go along with that.”

Several comments were left on the organizations Facebook page, saying the no-hug policy was going too far.
