LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)Tis the season to be thankful and share with those less fortunate. For the lucky dogs and cats at Louisville Metro Animal Services that meant a warm meal with all the fixings.

Founder and President of Rudy Green’s Karla Haas said, “Ground turkey, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, green beans, celery, bread cubes, stuffing and cranberries.”[…]

“It’s a very special treat for shelter pets,” Teeya Barnes, LMAS, said.

More than 200 dogs and cats were given a holiday meal just like everyone else.

“It means so much more to the staff to have something special for the animals too. They live this day in and day out. And just to give them a something a little different and make them feel like the holidays even here in the shelter,” Haas said.

Rudy Green’s Doggy Cuisine cooked up the creation. They’ve done it at other shelters for the past ten years.

“It’s great just to see them really enjoy a meal,” Haas said.

“Little things can go a long way in helping a shelter dog lift its spirits. It’s a very stressful environment. It’s loud, it’s smelly,” Barnes said.
