According to a senior Democratic lawmaker, the newly-empowered party — fresh off of taking the House in the midterm election — plans to open an investigation into President Donald Trump’s attacks on media outlets.
In an interview with Axios, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) claimed that it is “very squarely within our responsibility to find out” if Trump’s attacks targeting CNN and the Washington Post are an abuse of White House authority and power.
According to the lawmaker, a Democratic-led panel plans to look into Trump’s demand that the U.S. Post Office double shipping rates for online retailer Amazon — also headed by Post owner Jeff Bezos.
“This appears to be an effort by the president to use the instruments of state power to punish Jeff Bezos and the Washington Post,” Schiff explained.
