Former President Barack Obama is set to campaign for Richard Cordray, the Democratic nominee for governor of Ohio, on Thursday despite reports that Cordray funneled over $43 million in taxpayer funds to his campaign’s media firm.
The Associated Press reported on Thursday that while Cordray was the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), he granted a government contract to the Washington, D.C.-based advertising and media firm, GMMB.[…]
Cordray’s campaign told the Associated Press that “there’s nothing improper about the firm’s work for the government or the campaign.”
But the Republican Governors Association (RGA) blasted Cordray for, “engaging in a pay-to-play scheme with the Democrat ad firm.”
“Cordray’s continued use of GMMB for his gubernatorial campaign raises serious ethical questions and further shows that he can’t be trusted to lead Ohio,” the RGA said in a statement.
