Time for an ICE raid in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Transportation says the man accused in Mollie Tibbetts’ murder does not have an Iowa driver’s license or state ID, which would have been needed to secure employment.

The Iowa DOT reviewed its records and used facial recognition software to confirm that Cristhian Bahena Rivera did not have a legal form of ID under that name or any alternate name. His employers at Yarrabee Farms said in a news conference on Wednesday that he had used a fake name when he applied for work four years ago. Rivera’s lawyer contends that he is indeed in the country legally.

Iowa law, consistent with the federal REAL ID Act, prohibits the Iowa DOT from issuing any type of driver’s license or identification card to a person who is an undocumented immigrant.

The owner of Yarrabee Farms said Wednesday that they did not verify Rivera’s legal status through the E-Verify system and apologized for not vetting Rivera properly.
