A good guy with a gun…

Via Spokesman Review:

Police say a suspect is dead after taking fire from an armed security guard inside a Coeur d’Alene credit union Saturday afternoon, following what appears to have been a botched robbery attempt.

Around 1:00 p.m., shortly before the credit union was scheduled to close, a man in dark clothing and a full face shield motorcycle helmet walked into the Global Credit Union Coeur d’Alene branch, located at 320 Neider Ave., and brandished a handgun, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department news release.

According to a news release issued by the credit union, the suspect opened fire upon entering the bank.

An armed security guard, recognizing the potential threat, drew his weapon and fired at least once, striking the suspect, police said.

“The suspect attempted to flee from the bank but succumbed to his injuries, collapsing inside the building,” the police release states.

Police, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies and Idaho State Police troopers responded quickly to the scene. Devon Crawford, a shift manager at the Gourmet Get & Go convenience store located next to the bank, said he was stocking shelves when he saw police swarming around the building, breaking windows to gain entry.

The suspect was located and officers attempted lifesaving measures. However, he was declared dead at the scene.
