A U.S. government scientist declared the 55 boxes of human remains sent from North Korea are “consistent with being Americans” after viewing their contents.
John E. Byrd, director of the laboratory in Hawaii in which the remains are undergoing in-depth forensic analysis, confirmed Thursday that the bones belonged to Americans, but that it was too early to determine how many individuals were represented by the remains, according to the Associated Press. Byrd said the equipment that accompanied the bones, such as boots and canteens, are consistent with those used by American forces and that the remains were likely from those who died in the Korean War between 1950 and 1953.
