A deplorable could vacation for two weeks with a tent and $700.
Via NY Post:
The hardest part about glamping in a $700-per-night tent — besides mentally processing the $700 tent — is figuring out what the hell to pack.
A normal camping trip, I can handle: sleeping bag, tent, bug spray, wet wipes.
But for Collective Retreats — Governors Island’s fancy new “indoors-meets-outdoors” campground, which hosted me on a recent Saturday night — do I bring smart, light layers or photogenic crop tops? What’s best to light the way at night: a headlamp or the flash of an Instax camera?
Although I bring a can of bug spray, I err on the side of looking cute. And after a breezy ride on the Governors Island Ferry (free for hotel guests), camp general manager Vanessa Vitale validates my frivolous choices.
“We have pretty much everything one would need,” Vitale tells me from the campground’s rustic-chic lobby. She describes the site — a quiet field, dotted with 37 tents and overlooking lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty — as “an environment where you can connect with people. You can disconnect from your daily life and get in touch with the outdoors.”
Then she shows me to my room.
The Summit tent, which starts at $400 per night, but can net $700 per night or more on weekends, is less a tent than it is a perfect, ridiculously over-the-top alpine cabin with canvas walls.
It’s outfitted to accommodate two adults and two children. Instead of mummy bags, there are two full-size beds outfitted with 1,500-thread-count sheets. The attached private bathroom(!) has hot water, plush towels, a rainfall shower head and “fresh air”-scented bath products.
