Two pounds of methamphetamine were seized and two men face charges after an investigation involving several local agencies.

According to the press release from the Rowan Sheriff’s Office, On June 27, 2018, after a six month investigation, “two Mexican Nationals in the country illegally” were arrested in Rowan County for trafficking methamphetamine ice.

The investigation began in January when the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) began looking into the distribution of methamphetamine ice in Yadkin, Rowan, and Davie counties.

Investigators say that undercover officers with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office made multiple purchases of methamphetamine ice from Alfredo Arias-Vello, age 52, a resident of Yadkinville.

On June 27, Vello along with Luciano Vargas-Benitez, age 34, a resident of Mocksville, were arrested following another purchase, and 15 ounces of methamphetamine ice was seized.

Assisting in the investigation were the Salisbury Police Department, Mocksville Police Department, Yadkinville Police Department, and the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
