
An elementary school in Virginia will be renamed Barack Obama Elementary School the Richmond School Board decided Monday night. In a 6-1 vote, the board decided to remove the name of JEB Stuart, a confederate general, from the school that has a 95% African-American student body.
CBS News reports:
Many of the new school name options represented influential African-American civil rights leaders including Barbara Johns, Oliver Hill, and Henry Marsh.
The top three finalist names on Monday night were Barack Obama, Northside, and Wishtree.
