Now that Socialist President Nicolas Maduro has won re-election and a “mandate” to continue destroying Venezuela for another six years, citizens are buying bus tickets for a mass exodus.
According to Reuters, some Venezuelans have saved for as many as eight months to buy a bus ticket out of the country. Tickets are 1.4 million Bolivars each (around $17.50 USD), more than what some people make in a month in the socialist paradise.
Speaking with Reuters, a nurse named Betsabeth Casique described the fury she and others felt upon Maduro’s re-election, an event that opposition and foreign governments have called illegitimate. “That was the straw that broke the camel’s back, what pushed me to do it faster,” said Casique, 29.
