The Trump flag was the trigger for the perpetually offended.
A Fairhope family is speaking out after receiving what they believe is a demeaning, threatening letter from an anonymous source regarding their home and political views.
The family said they believe the letter goes beyond political disagreement and has become an attempt to intimidate them.
Brian Richards said the letter, which repeatedly mocks the appearance of the home and the placement of a Trump flag outside, was placed in his mailbox with no return address or name.
“I’m an American fan. I love this country. I love our president and I want him to succeed. I don’t agree 100 percent with everything he’s done but he is our president,” said Richards.
Richards says his right to show that support is now being targeted by an anonymous stranger.
After moving to Fairhope last month with his daughter to support his mother after his father had passed away, Richards put up both American and Trump flags on his home.
On Monday, Richards said he found the letter in his mailbox.
“It looked like a welcome letter from the city of Fairhope. That’s what I was thinking. It said ‘New Resident’ and my address on there. I opened it up and started reading it and I thought, this is not a welcome letter,” Richards said.
Richards said the full-page letter begins by calling him part of the “Trump idiocracy” before insulting his rental home and its appearance. It also told Richards he’s “advertising his stupidity” and is proud of racism and hatred.
