The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said a man who was shot to death at an Upstate gas station was killed after kidnapping his ex-girlfriend.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office received a call shortly before 7 a.m. regarding a shooting incident at the Marathon Gas station on Highway 29 South near Starr. The coroner was dispatched after a male was found deceased at the scene.
After an autopsy, Coroner Greg Shore identified the decedent as 36-year-old Rodney Nixon of Anderson.
Shore said Nixon broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home on Grady Hall Road and assaulted a male subject in the house before kidnapping the female victim.
When the car broke down a short time later, Shore said Nixon asked a nearby neighbor to take him to his car so he could jump it off, but then pulled out a gun and told the victim to keep driving.
When the victim said his vehicle was nearly out of gas, Shore said they stopped at the Marathon station. His ex-girlfriend was able to get the gun away from Nixon and shot him in the chest while he was pumping gas, Shore said.
