An off-duty nurse body slammed and restrained a suspect, who punched a Wisconsin police officer during a violent struggle.
Portage Police said Officer Brian Lowenhagen and Sgt. Eric Walters were trying to arrest a man on a parole violation when they were “viciously attacked” Sunday evening.
At one point, a woman with the man they were arresting punched Lowenhagen in the face several times while he was trying to handcuff the suspect.
Walters rushed to help his fellow officer and tried to restrain the woman, but was kicked in the head by the male suspect.
“The kick was so powerful that it literally knocked Walters out,” Police Chief Kenneth Manthey told WKOW. “He was unconscious for over two minutes.”
An off-duty nurse, identified as Vanessa Guerra, saw the struggle and aided the unconscious officer. While checking on him, the female suspect began fighting with Loewenhagen again and started yelling about having a knife.
Concerned the woman was going to stab the officer, the nurse disregarded her own safety and “took it upon herself to engage the female suspect by body slamming (her) against a wall,” the department said.
The nurse restrained the woman until Walters regained consciousness and arrested her.
