“Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon has announced plans to challenge Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the 2018 election.
A longtime liberal activist and ally to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, Nixon has recently hinted at a primary run to Cuomo’s left. The New York Times reported earlier in the month that she was hiring political consultants ahead of a challenge to the beleaguered Cuomo.
On Monday, she made it official. “I love New York, and today I’m announcing my candidacy for governor,” Nixon tweeted, along with a video touting her views on healthcare, fixing New York City’s subway, and ending mass incarceration.
