Nashville Mayor Megan Barry is expected to announce her resignation at a news conference Tuesday morning. The resignation comes after she pleaded guilty to felony theft over $10,000 related to her affair with her former police bodyguard.
She faced multiple investigations into the affair with police Sgt. Rob Forrest, who is now retired. Barry agreed to reimburse the city.
The mayor will give a statement to the media at 10 a.m. at the Metro courthouse on Public Square.
The mayor has begun calling close advisers this morning to inform them of her decision, according to multiple sources.
Barry, a Democrat, is the first Nashville mayor to leave office before the expiration of their term in nearly a century.
The resignation means that Vice Mayor David Briley will be sworn as mayor.
