The chief spokesman of South Carolina’s public health agency has been removed from its communications staff listing following the posting of a profanity-laced Twitter message critical of President Donald Trump.
A list provided Friday to The Associated Press no longer includes Tim Kelly among communications staff at the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
A tweet Wednesday from the agency’s official account called Trump a “tool,” modified by an expletive and had (hash)ParklandStudentsSpeak attached. Since last week’s deadly shooting, students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, have spoken out in favor of gun control.
Agency spokesman Tommy Crosby told the AP that the employee intended to tweet from a personal account and was fired.
Following an open-records request from AP for information on employees with access to the account and its login history, messages to Kelly have gone unanswered.
