Taking action instead of waiting.

After the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida last week, Mendy Robbins knew she had to do something.
Robbins, a substitute teacher and mother of two students at the school, started a safety fund to buy security equipment for the school.
The UHS Safety Fund is hoping to raise $10,000 to purchase barracuda door locks for each of the school’s 55 classrooms, along with two large monitors for the school resource officer to watch surveillance footage.
“I get really tired of people blaming the school board for not doing this, not doing that,” Robbins told WCYB. “I think it’s our responsibility as parents to do something to work with our school system.”
The administration at Union High has jumped on board as well. Principal Dan Roop hadn’t thought of the idea of purchasing the door locks until Robbins brought up the plan last week.
