Democratic Mayors from across America defended sanctuary cities and blasted President Trump and the Department of Justice over a letter sent to 23 sanctuary cities that demanded they provide records showing they are cooperating with immigration enforcement agencies during a press conference on Wednesday.

The DOJ on Wednesday sent a letter to 23 sanctuary cities and threatened them “with subpoenas if they fail to provide documents to show whether local law enforcement officers are sharing information with federal immigration authorities.”

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is in Washington, D.C. for it’s 86th annual winter meeting, and the Democratic mayors at the press conference took great offense to DOJ’s request.

New Orleans Democratic Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the brother of former Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), said that he would not be attending the scheduled meeting at the White House to discuss infrastructure because of the letter.
