Sarah Sanders took to the White House podium Monday afternoon to take a victory lap after Democrats voted to re-open the federal government. Sanders claimed that Democrats had been defeated by the president after capitulating to GOP terms after the three-day shutdown.
At one point in the heated negotiations, Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer said negotiating with Trump is “like negotiating with Jell-O.”
“Hoping to give you the chance to respond to the criticism that Chuck Schumer lobbed turnover the weekend,” a reporter told Sanders Monday. “In addition to saying that … negotiating with [Trump] is like negotiating with Jell-O, today the senator said that the great dealmaker sat on the sidelines. Was it a concerted effort on the president’s part not to reach out to him this weekend?”
Sanders cued up a spoonful for the press room. She said bluntly, “What the president did clearly worked.” She continued:
