The Senate tax bill will not include a repeal of the adoption tax credit, GOP senators said Thursday, a break from the House legislation.

Conservatives and anti-abortion groups have criticized the House version of the bill, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which would repeal a tax credit offered to parents who adopt. Repealing the credit is expected to save the government $13,570 per adopted child.

Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and John Hoeven, R-N.D., confirmed to reporters that the Senate version did not repeal the adoption tax credit.

They also said the current draft of Senate bill does not include a repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate that requires Americans to buy health insurance or pay a fine.

“I believe we should repeal the individual mandate which is an IRS penalty,” Cruz said.
