Baseball Hall of Famer Rod Carew has a new lease on life thanks to a new heart and kidney that he received from Ravens tight end Konrad Reuland, who died this past December due to a brain aneurysm, it was learned on Friday.

Carew had been experiencing further deterioration in his health following a 2015 heart attack and was moved up on the list of donors, according to the East Bay Times.

Late last year, Carew appeared on the verge of giving up hope – until he was informed that a new heart and kidney were waiting for him.

The organs belonged to Reuland, a 6-foot-4-inch, 254-pound tight end who played professional football with the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and Indianapolis Colts.

Reuland, 29, died on December 12 of complications that arose following a brain aneurysm.
