There was a story that many ran with today about Chelsea Clinton’s “advice to young activists.” We ran it here.
Of course all her advice points are tied to current progressive efforts. So, for example, she mentions one advice point, “get involved with social media,” and then encourages people to come out to town halls to protest (presumably GOP) senators.
She naturally takes the expected bash at Donald Trump.
But tucked away deep within the story is something interesting.
Now, of course Trump has taken an axe to many programs that are near and dear to the hearts of liberals in in his new budget, including things like the NEA.
But Chelsea doesn’t talk about those, she talks specifically about cuts to USAID, under the heading of “even for global issues the work begins at home.”
“[Young people should] recognize how the decisions in Washington affect whether or not kids are going to be in school around the world,” Clinton said. “Right now, the current proposed budget has significant cuts for USAID in it, and significant cuts to some of the gender-based programs that USAID was leading to help close the gender gap for girls and women, including empowerment opportunities like school or training.”
If young people care about helping kids around the world get into school, Clinton explained, they need to find out if their own government believes it’s something in the United States’ interests.
“It’s clear that President Obama believed helping more kids around the world get into school was in our interests. And it’s clear at the moment that the Trump administration doesn’t share that priority,” she said.
She reiterated the need for kids to go to town halls, engaging with their representatives and asking them tough questions.
“Do they support cutting USAID? Do they think it is in America’s best interest to have more girls be in school around the world, and have more women have empowerment training? And if they do, then ask them if they’re going to support Trump’s budget. Because how could they, if they say they don’t believe what’s in it? I think that would be a really powerful moment for some kids,” she said.
Why is this interesting?
Because yes, there is no doubt that USAID has done some good things.
But as conservative senators have found out, our tax dollars in the USAID program have also been used to export and promote progressivism under the guise of ‘aid’ to other countries.
Even more, our money has been funneled to George Soros’ foundation by the Obama administration to do this.
Congress is currently investigating how the Obama administration used USAID, funneled massive amounts of money to Soros, to interfere in the election in Macedonia and may have cost the conservative government the control of Parliament there.
George Soros, of course, gave millions to the campaign of Hillary Clinton.
Perhaps this explains Chelsea’s ardor for USAID.
Methinks Congress should be walking through every State Department program including USAID to see what other ‘interference’ the Obama administration may have been promoting in our name and on our dime…
