If the report is correct, he is asking to be fired rather than resign.

It’s normal for Presidents to replace U.S. Attorneys when they enter.

However, in November, it had been reported that President Trump had asked Preet Bharara, who is U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (the area that contains NYC and a lot of vital prosecutions) to stay on. That’s why in the announcement from yesterday of AG Jeff Sessions asking the remaining Obama appointed U.S. Attorneys to resign, it was assumed he might be an exception.

Apparently he was not.

Bharara was thought well of from both sides of the aisle because he appeared to go after both Democrats and Republicans equally and was working on cases against the Clinton Foundation.

If this report is true, it suggests he’s just a bit disturbed about how this rolled out, isn’t ready to leave and wants to make a public issue out of it.
