At least one axe-wielding madman leapt off a train at Dusseldorf, Germany’s main train station Thursday night and started attacking people, leaving at least five injured and the station floor swamped with blood, European media reported.
Panicked commuters fled screaming in horror as the attacker, who had another accomplice armed with an axe, according to some reports, slashed anyone he came across.
“There was blood everywhere,” one eyewitness told the German newspaper Bild.
“We were standing on the track, waiting for the train. The train came and suddenly someone jumped out with an axe and hit the people. I have experienced a lot, but I have never experienced it,” the witness said.
Cops were able to grab the man and took him and another person into custody, but cops were still searching for other suspects and investigating if the bloodbath was a terrorist operation.
