Sounds like a goofy way to run a business. I wonder if they’ll accept paying customers who are male.
An Ohio bookstore is hiding the spines of over 6,000 books written by male authors for two weeks for Women’s History Month.
The Cleveland, Ohio bookstore sorted through 10,000 fiction books, turning around those written by men so that the pages face outward and the spines with the titles and author names face inward. This left approximately 3,700 titles — written by women — facing outward, as reported by ABC News.
“[The project will] illustrate just how much more prominent men are in the professional world of letters than women are,” said Harriet Logan, owner of Loganberry Books. “This is not by talent, choice, or even popularity, but mostly through industry favoritism, social opportunity, and habit. The random new and used inventory at Loganberry Books is as good a place to illustrate this gender bias as any other.”
The book store plans to keep the titles blocked for two weeks, starting March 1. Logan described customer reaction to the endeavor, which took two hours and ten people, as “overwhelmingly positive.”
