The tolerant left strikes again.

Violence spread to the streets of Berkeley Saturday afternoon as scattered fighting between marchers supporting President Trump and counter protesters at a Saturday afternoon pro-Trump rally in Berkeley became taken over by anarchists.

The rally began at 2 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park — less than a mile from the UC Berkeley campus where weeks ago violence broke out against a planned but later canceled appearance by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos.

Fighting started at the park even before Saturday’s event began as people threw punches and blue smoke bombs went off. Hundreds descended on the park, but the number of Trump supporters among anarchists and counter demonstrators wasn’t immediately clear.

Anarchists wearing gas masks stopped traffic as they marched through downtown Berkeley from the park walking toward University Street

“This is the most immature and disgusting display of human interaction,” said David Tomes of San Rafael, a pro-Trump marcher. A “Don’t Tread on Me” flag was draped around his shoulders, and he held an American flag in one hand. The 49-year-old said he owns a yoga studio in Petaluma and has been targeted for his political beliefs. […]

The rally devolved into shouting and shoving, with fights breaking out several times over the next hour. People threw blue and white smoke bombs, scorching the grass, and a woman fired pepper spray into the crowd of several hundred. Police officers in riot gear monitored the crowd.
