The Embassy went on a lockdown immediately after the Russian Ambassador was shot at an Art Center nearby. This shooting took place some hours after the Embassy had said there was fine.

ISTANBUL—The U.S. closed its main diplomatic missions in Turkey after a man fired shots outside its embassy not far from where the Russian ambassador was assassinated hours before, amid testy relations between Washington and Ankara.

The man pulled out a pump-action shotgun hidden under his coat as he approached the U.S. Embassy in Ankara and fired nine rounds in the air, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency. Turkish police guarding the American mission detained the man.

As the investigation continued there was no information available about the shooter’s intent or if his actions were connected in any way to the assassination of Russian Ambassador Andrey Karlov.
