The petition is in and of itself deceptive and has gone thru at least two rewrites since it was started, in part because people like this site have pointed out the illegality they were pushing. Initially they offered to pay the fine of faithless electors who broke the law. They still appear to be suggesting to electors there would be no consequences to being ‘faithless’, when in some states it is against the law.
Nearly five million people have signed a Change.org petition urging electors of the Electoral College to make Hillary Clinton, not President-elect Donald Trump, the next commander-in-chief.
The petition says Trump is “unfit to serve” and calls on 149 electors to ignore the way their states voted and pick Clinton because she won the popular vote.
“His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the republic,” the petition reads. “There is no reason Trump should be president.”
