A statewide recount in Michigan is likely to proceed, barring any court action, after the Board of State Canvassers deadlocked on a motion to deny the request.
In a 2-2 vote along party lines Friday, an objection from President-elect Donald Trump’s legal team to deny a recount requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein failed.
Because a majority was not achieved, the recount can theoretically proceed with the plan the Secretary of State has put in place two business days following the decision. A Secretary of State official said they’re still determining whether that would commence Tuesday or Wednesday.
