A useful Hillary surrogate. Hillary can disavow challenging the election results. Update to this previous story.

Via WBTV:

Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein raised the money early Thursday for recounts in three battleground states: Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The fundraiser, held on Stein’s website, began in the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 23 with a goal of $2.5 million. By 2 a.m. CT Thursday, Stein’s effort had reached and exceeded its target dollar amount.

The money will go toward filing fees in the three states, according to the website. However, the campaign projects $2 to 3 million more would be needed for attorney fees, and the total cost for a recount would likely be even higher than that.

The Green Party updated their website shortly after reaching the original goal with an extended goal of $4.5 million.

The states’ deadlines to file for recounts are all within the next week. Wisconsin’s deadline comes first on Friday, Nov. 25 and will cost $1.1 million; Pennsylvania’s deadline is Monday, Nov. 28 and Michigan’s is Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The Green Party did not single out an instance of fraud, but they do not need any examples to file for a recount.

While Hillary Clinton supporters have been clamoring for just such an event, Stein said the effort is not intended to help the Democratic candidate, nor is it intended to help Stein herself, as she only received about 1 percent of the national vote.

Instead, Stein issued a statement about the importance of authentic elections.

“After a divisive and painful presidential race, reported hacks into voter and party databases and individual email accounts are causing many Americans to wonder if our election results are reliable,” Stein said in a statement. “These concerns need to be investigated before the 2016 presidential election is certified. We deserve elections we can trust.”
